Should you be doing a Mid-Year Inventory Count?

Plus - how to make ChatGPT sound like 'you'

Greetings and Gigabytes

It’s July! We are now firmly in H2 and it’s a good time to take stock of your business - what’s working, what can be improved, and what you’d like to accomplish by the end of the year.

I’m going to be onsite doing a mid-year inventory count with a client July 25-30th and wanted to share the benefits of a mid-year inventory count below.

I’ll be deep in the trenches those days, so my response time will be slower than usual. That being said, you can always reference the Course Material for common questions and issues.

Tech Task of The Week

We are taking some liberties here, because an Inventory Count is more than a “Tech” or “Weekly” Task, but it’s a great time to do a mid-year count.

Why Perform a Mid-Year Inventory Count?
  • Identify Issues or Challenges Before Year-End
Catching potential problems now means fewer headaches during the year-end rush. It's all about being proactive rather than reactive.

  • Good 'Health Check'
Think of it as a check-up for your business. Regular inventory counts help ensure everything is running smoothly and as expected.

  • Opportunity to Sell Old Inventory
Spot those items that have been collecting dust and move them before the end of the year. It's a great way to free up space and generate some extra cash.

  • Identify Items That May Be Returned
Find products that can still be returned within the return window, reducing potential losses and optimizing your stock levels.

Circuit Break: A Minute of AI

Ever wonder how to make ChatGPT sound more like you? I did too!
Initially, I felt like everything was too impersonal and didn’t capture my tone of voice.

Eventually, I started using audio transcripts of myself talking.
It was really helpful in the sense that I could ramble on about my thoughts and say random key words in an audio file, and then have a clean, readable text result.

Here’s how I do it:

  1. Record with Loom: I record myself talking about the topic.

  2. Download the SRT file: I then download the transcript file from Loom.

  3. Upload to ChatGPT: I copy and paste the transcript into ChatGPT.

  4. Define the task: I give ChatGPT clear instructions, like "write a positive review for this hair salon using my words from the transcript."

That’s it! It takes a fraction of the time, gets the job done, and still sounds like ‘me’.
