Here’s something I’ve noticed after attending a lot of industry conferences: there are always two types of people who come home from them.
The first is the Blue Sky Person - the big thinker, the visionary, the one who fills pages of notes with ideas and inspiration. They’re fired up and ready to transform the business by Monday.
The second is the Doer - the one who has to figure out how to make it all actually work. They’re practical, grounded, and sometimes a little skeptical (especially when they didn’t see the presentation themselves).
Unfortunately, most conferences only get the Blue Sky Person. The owner or CEO comes back with 47 new tools and a whole new direction, and their ops or project team is left trying to decode a half-remembered vision that was “really inspiring at the time.”
So here’s a thought: why not bring a different mix of people?
Especially people who think differently than you do.
I’ve been talking a lot about The Six Types of Working Genius lately, and it’s such a useful lens for this. Pairing people with different Working Geniuses - say, a Wonder with a Galvanizer, or an Invention with an Enablement - means you don’t just dream big, you actually bring the ideas home in a way your team can execute.
I experienced this at a recent conference with one of my clients.
I attended as a Strategic Operations Advisor, sitting in on sessions alongside one of the MSP owners. He’d light up during keynotes, explaining how he could see a new tool or process fitting into his company’s strategy. Meanwhile, I’d listen for the operational implications - what would this mean for their workflows, data structure, and team capacity?
After the conference, I built an implementation plan focused on his Sales Team - a real, actionable roadmap to turn those “what if” ideas into day-to-day improvements. His motivation and vision, tied with my resources and action plan, made me feel set up for success.
That’s the difference between coming home inspired and coming home ready.

Best Practices for Change Management in MSPs
Change management is often the missing piece when implementing new tools or processes. I find it’s helpful to turn to the Lippet-Knoster Model for Managing Complex Change - I love this so much, I’ve printed it out and given it to my clients to put out on their walls.
Run through a recent project or initiative and see if your outcome is aligned with the visual - what were you missing? What can you do differently next time?

Mizo - AI-Driven Ticket Triage (and a Win for Team Canada!)
One of my favorite moments at IT Nation Connect was watching Mizo take the stage at the PitchIT competition - and win second place!
It was genuinely exciting to see a Canadian company standing out among so many great entries. Mizo’s AI triage system automates ticket routing and prioritization in ConnectWise, reducing noise and helping dispatch teams assign the right tech faster.
I’ve been following their progress for a while, and it’s great to see them getting the recognition they deserve.

Asio …. maybe? There was a lot of information on the new ConnectWise Asio platform, and to be honest, I’m still working through it to try and put together a relevant roadmap. More to come.
